This month, Elaine & I - Fresh Photography - will be the featured artists at the Yale Street Market! We were even mentioned last week in the Chronicle!
Market coordinator Mitch Cohen says, “Christine and Elaine are what we are all about, finding your passion and sharing it with others. They’ve been chosen as a pair to be featured because everything about them is professional: High quality matted prints of their work, excellent booth display and a wonderful attitude. I see people return to their booth each month!” Cohen also pointed out that its artists like Mesker-Garcia and Tremoulet that have been the drive to keep the market going. Yale Street Arts Market will celebrate its fourth year next month.
The market is tomorrow, Saturday February 2nd, from 11am to 6pm. The arts market is located on the parking lot of Wind Water Asian Antiques Gallery at 548 W. 19th St. and open only on the first Saturday of each month, rain or shine year round. As we have been doing the market for over a year now, Elaine & I have decided to have a special sale this month to help make way to for new prints to be featured in the future - so come out and find some bargins! There will be door prizes too!
The above photograph is one of many that Elaine & I will have for sale this Saturday at the Yale Street Market! Come and visit the Fresh Photography booth and see what prints we have to offer. The market is a ton of fun - all the vendors are required to make what they sell and there are lot of great things available. There is also live music, plus fantastic shopping nearby in the Heights!
The market is during the daytime this month from 11am - 6pm, in the parking lot next to the Wind & Water Gallery, 548 West 19th Street Houston, TX 77008. Be sure to say hello if you come by!
Christine and I are thrilled to announce the opening of the Houstonist’s first photo exhibit. It is titled 600 sq mi: Photos from Houston. To summarize, the show is “a juried exhibition of photographs from Houston, from Main Street to the coastal prairie and everything in between. The photos show what makes Houston what it is: the buildings, the landscape, the people, the art, the taco stands, the shotgun houses, the freeways.” Along with the Houstonist, the exhibit is being co-presented with our local NPR station, KUHF.
What makes it even more thrilling is that both Christine and I had our works accepted for the show! Between the two of us, we have three photographs hanging on the walls at the gallery!
An opening reception will be taking place Saturday, September 8th from 7-10 PM. We will both be there and would love to see you there!
If you can’t make it Saturday night, no worries. The photo exhibit will be up for a month at MSquared Gallery in The Heights from September 5th - October 7th so if you can’t make it to the reception, please stop by the gallery in the coming month!
It is that time again! Yale Street Market is this Saturday! Elaine & I will be there, and there will be lots of great prints for sale! The market is from 6pm - 10pm (Summer Hours!) and it is really a fun time.
Last month, Mitch asked me if I would go and photograph the performing artist for June, Carrie Ann Buchanan. I did, and gave him permission to use the photos with the press releases he has been sending out. The featured photograph here is also the featured image along with the information on Yale Street Market at the ArtsHound site! It is currently right on the first page. This morning, my Mom called me while reading the Houston Chronicle’s local weekend section. (Tomball, Klein & Spring) She had recognized the photo and we were specifically mentioned at being at the show! How cool is that?
Today, the latest copy of BarStool Magazine Houston will be hitting the streets, including my photos of the Bartender of the Month, Ashley at Baker Street Pub - Willowbrook! It was fun having a chance to photograph her a few weeks ago, and I’ve been anxiously waiting for the magazines to come out so that I could share! She is such a sweetheart - be sure to visit Baker Street Pub and have her pour you a Guinness or two! (But remember to drink responsibly.) I also shot photos of Leon’s Lounge for the magazine - what a cool place! The neighborhood bar, with unexpected chandaliers all over the place! That just amused me to no end. The people were friendly, the bartender was fun, and it is definitely a place to go visit.
We did a few other shoots for BarStool, but mums the word until the August issue comes out and they are featured in it!

Thanks to everyone that came out to see us at the Yale Street Market this month! I had to miss it this time around, unfortunately - I got to make a trip up north to go to Maryland Sheep & Wool. It is a big fiber festival with lots and lots of sheep & goats, and tons of crafters. Weaving, spinning, knitting and crocheting - I saw it all. I tried not to do too much damage to the credit card, but I did manage to end up bringing some goodies home with me. Many, many thanks to my husband, Mike, who went to help out Elaine with the show!
I am not home yet as I’m in Philadelphia right now - I flew into town last week to visit my friend Mac, who I went to Maryland with along with our friend Dell. Tomorrow, I’m off to New York City to photograph a sweet new baby, Julia! She is about a month old now. Mike & I met her parents while we were at Stephen & Kimberly’s wedding in February, and when I realized that I would be just down the road in Philly this weekend, I added on a few days to make time for a photo shoot with them. It will be my first time in New York, and while it is just for an overnight I can’t wait! Hopefully I’ll get some time for some city shots too - check back here for updates!
In just a few days, Elaine is going to be in New York too! We miss each other up here by a few days. I can’t WAIT to see what she captures while in the city! Looks like we’ll both have good weather for it, so it should be perfect!
